Previously, Crimson Dawn Online had a flavorful 'language' pack, allowing a user to switch to their racial language in chat so only other members of their race could read their speech. It was hidden from view from others, but otherwise acted as a local broadcast. Most players didn't utilize it except for RP value and it was only used sparingly in quests and other in-game events so as not to leave the player feeling excluded from the dialogue.
Now players trapped in the game are coming to find that there's every bit as much of a language barrier as there was back on Earth. Fortunately, there seems to be an intrinsic understanding of the racial languages, as if some internal translator in their minds is filtering the words to their native Earth language. And everyone can speak the common Human language. But it looks like it'll require either magic or the old fashioned way of learning the other languages...
All players start with the ability to Fluently speak their racial language and, if non-human, the Human language. Humans start with Human and a secondary language of their choice. Mixed Bloods know how to speak Human and one of their parental languages. If one parent is already human, they automatically know the other parents' language as their secondary. To learn more languages, one must acquire dictionaries crafted by a Linguist or use magical items to assist with translation.
