Reputation
Reputation is your standing with specific towns. This both influences how the NPCs react to you as well as special perks you may acquire within that location, both in-game mechanically and organically from the people who live there. All new players start with 0 reputation in all discovered locations (except for tieflings, who start with -10.) The cap for all non-tiefling races is 100 reputation at which point you're considered in the highest esteem by the people of the region. It is possible to go into the negatives beyond the tiefling racial drawback, and if you go too far you may find yourself banished! (Or at least an attempt will be made by the NPCs of that region.) As new regions are unlocked, all players will have a starting rep in that place of 0.
Fame
Fame is a relic of the game before the game became a reality. Formerly, it used to mean simply a fancy title or nameplate over your character's avatar. Now, though? It seems to have a bit more of an impact. As your fame goes up you may find people and creatures of the land seeking you out, either for good or for ill purposes.
