At CDO, we want people to play their characters how they want them to be played. But we also want everyone to be able to interact fairly and have a good time. To that effect, we ask that you label all abilities and items with a power ranking somewhere in the description. For example, a character may have this ability:
Heat Ray – This ability allows Bob to shoot fire energy at his enemies.
The description should include one of the below power rankings to better imply how powerful the attack is:
Heat Ray – This ability allows Bob to shoot fire energy at his enemies. (moderate power.)
If an item or power has multiple effects, please mark the tier for each effect. For example:
Laser Eye Glasses - These glasses allow you to shoot lasers (light power) and can also scan a player's thoughts (moderate.)
Please use only the terms listed below. For easy readability, power tier should be listed in brackets or parenthesis next to the ability, item, power, etc.
Weak – Items, attacks, healing, and defensive abilities in this category are very weak. Attacks will barely be able to hurt someone, abilities will be easy to resist, healing can only cure scratches and bruises, and defensive items aren’t much protection at all.
Light – Items, attacks, healing, and defensive abilities in this category aren’t very strong. Attacks hurt, but it’ll take several to add up to any serious damage, abilities can be resisted with a little effort, healing cures only ‘light’ wounds caused by light attacks, and defensive items provide some but not a lot of protection.
Moderate – Items, attacks, healing, and defensive abilities in this category are average strength. Attacks hurt but aren’t devastating, abilities may or may not be resisted, healing cures several light wounds or one moderate wound, and defensive items provide adequate protection.
Strong – Items, attacks, healing, and defensive abilities in this category are powerful. Attacks hurt quite a bit, abilities are difficult to resist, healing cures many of your wounds or one very strong wound, and defensive items provide a lot of protection.
Epic – Items, attacks, healing, and defensive abilities in this category are ungodly. Attacks can be one-hit knockouts or lethal, abilities are almost impossible to resist without items or abilities to help, healing cures all your wounds including lethal ones, and defensive items provide immunity.
When creating your character, you may have 1 strong, 2 moderate, and unlimited light and weak abilities. You may also have the same set of power levels for your items - 1 strong, 2 moderate, etc. This does not overlap with your abilities, so you can have 1 strong ability, 1 strong item, and so on. You may not start with any epic abilities or items.
For players looking to utilize descriptors in their items, please use this item-value chart to help you determine how much the item should be worth.
1g-100g – Weak items.
100g-500g – Light items.
500g-2000g – Moderate items.
2000g-4000g – Strong items.
4000g-5000g+ – Epic items.
